Prayer works. It is efficacious. God wants us all to pray, He is listening, and He responds. Prayer isn’t some trivial imaginary exercise we make children do to settle them down before bedtime. Prayer opens the heavens to the earth.
Prayer requires effort. It is not for the weak, for the lazy, or for the faint-hearted. Remember the Apostles when they were with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane? Jesus asked them to stay awake and pray with him, and they kept dozing off! Jesus showed us that prayer requires everything of us, and must be done in spite of all fear, anxiety and discomfort. Jesus would not ask us to pray if prayer is fruitless. At the most crucial moment in all of history, Jesus commissions His friends to pray because prayer works.
